Ironwood Farm offers a CSA program that provides a weekly vegetable hamper to members from mid-June to mid-November.
Each week from spring until late fall, we deliver CSA or food boxes to customers in Halifax. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture which means that customers pay up front to buy a given quantity of vegetables from the farm over the growing season. The idea is that subscribers share the risks and rewards of farming together with the farmer. Vegetable delivery is kind of a potluck affair in that the selection of produce varies from week to week and customers do not get to select their own vegetables.
Three large greenhouses means an early start to the growing season and a considerable variety of vegetables like tomatoes, peppers and egg plants in our food boxes. Highbush blueberries are available from the end of July until early September. Our production of peaches and pears is also increasing. Along with staples such as potatoes, carrots, lettuce and herbs we offer over twenty-five varieties of fruit and vegetables without overwhelming members with a surplus of any one product.
